action 4 limb difference
In the UK, thousands of young people are living with limb differences. Whether they are survivors of sepsis, meningitis, or trauma – or were born exactly as they are – one thing remains true: they deserve a life without limits.
A prosthetic is more than just medical hardware; it’s the key to belonging. It’s the ability to catch a ball, hold a bike handle, or hug a friend without thinking twice.
Right now, Action 4 Limb Difference and the Alex Lewis FLOAT Foundation are standing at the threshold of the largest fundraising opportunity the UK has ever seen for the limb difference community. We’re partnering with Koalaa to bring the future of prosthetics to those who need it most.
Why this changes everything:
-
Zero Wait: Koalaa Prosthetics can fit a life-changing soft prosthetic in just 25 minutes, bringing an end to long waits and fitting procedures.
-
Built to Last: These aren’t fragile tools; they’re designed to endure, lasting up to 4x longer than standard prosthetics.
-
Ready Now: We aren’t waiting for the future. Koalaa are fitting young children and adults today, and making a real difference.
Will you help us break the barriers? Your support puts independence directly into the hands of those who need it.
THE ALEX LEWIS NORTH ATLANTIC ROW (ALNAR) – june 2026
The ALNAR expedition is poised to make history. This will be the first North Atlantic crossing by a physically disabled person and the first attempt at this formidable route in a 12-person ocean rowing boat.
The aim of this feat? To create the largest fundraising opportunity for Action 4 Limb Difference and Assistive Technology to date, aiming to raise vital funds for both fitting new prosthetics for children and young adults, and to fund future assitive technoligy inovations.
Record Breaking Milestones:
- Alex Lewis to become the first physically disabled person to row the North
- Atlantic + Alex Lewis to become the first quadruple amputee to row an ocean
This immense challenge is not just about setting world records; it’s about demonstrating what becomes possible when determination meets opportunity.
This challenging adventure directly supports both Action 4 Limb Difference and The Alex Lewis FLOAT Foundation (ALFF), which was founded on Alex’s eleven years of experience navigating life as a quadruple amputee.
We understand that the primary obstacles aren’t physical—they’re the barriers of access, design, and affordability that prevent people from living independently. Whether it’s accomplishing daily tasks like brushing your teeth or pursuing extraordinary goals like ocean rowing, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. The ALFF works tirelessly to remove these barriers and create pathways to independence.
a challenge for change
Alex Lewis, founder of the FLOAT Foundation, is currently preparing for one of the most grueling physical tests on the planet. Alongside a crew of ten determined rowers, Alex is set to take on the unforgiving waters of the North Atlantic. This isn’t just a feat of endurance; it’s a mission to show those with limb difference can achieve the biggest of feats.
By taking to the oars, Alex is on the verge of making history twice over. He is set to become the first physically disabled person to ever row the North Atlantic and the first quadruple amputee to row an ocean. But for Alex, these world records are secondary to the real goal: creating the largest fundraising opportunity Action 4 Limb Difference and Assistive Technology.
This journey was born from Alex’s own eleven years of navigating life as a quadruple amputee, and every mile rowed directly fuels the work of the FLOAT Foundation and Action 4 Limb Difference. We are raising vital funds to provide life-changing prosthetics for children and young adults today, while investing in the assistive technology innovations of tomorrow. This challenge is the ultimate proof of what happens when we stop looking at what’s “impossible” and start focusing on what’s achievable when determination meets opportunity.
